Pet foods and dietary advice
We chose Royal Canin as our Practice food at Horsepond Veterinary Centre because we feel that at every stage of your pets’ life it is essential to provide good quality nutrition to allow the body to grow and function to its best ability.
All “complete” pet food contain the minimum requirements for healthy nutrition in an average pet but Royal Canin goes one stage further and tailors its diets to the important life stages that your pets reach as they grow. The diets provide good quality, highly digestible ingredients that can support your pets’ immune system, aid in dental health, aid in prevention of urinary tract problems and help to maintain joint health. If your pet does suffer from a particular health problem Royal Canin provide us with “Clinical Diets” that offer the optimum nutrition to aid the body in dealing with particular diseases e.g.: Cats suffering from Renal (Kidney Disease) need a source of good quality protein, higher calorie input as they often don’t want to eat a lot and reduced phosphorus levels as these has been proven to ease disease progression. Being able to supply this in a complete diet can make a significant difference in the quality of your cats’ life.
Please come and talk to us about your pets requirements: ask to speak to Lis Oram or Colette Kiff who are both Royal Canin pet health counsellors. A lot of our staff use Royal Canin for their pets and are happy to personally recommend it. We also understand that not all diets suite all pets and we are happy to order and look into other makes of diet if they are better for your pet.
Changing your pets diet: It is essential to make any diet changes very slowly to make sure that your pets accepts the new food and that you can stop if you notice any adverse effects. Cats in particular can eat a new diet one day and refuse it the next. It’s best to add in 10% increments of new diet to your pets existing diet over 4-7 days gradually replacing the original. If cats go of a new food just a simple change of flavor within the same range can get them eating it again- so don’t be too quick in saying your pet won’t eat a new diet. We are here to help every step of the way and if your pet really won’t eat it Royal Canin are so confident that they offer a money back guarantee so you have nothing to lose by trying.
Because good nutrition should be available to all we have made sure our food prices are competitive and often have special offers and new products available.
